Welcome Home

When I am gone, release me, let me go,
but be thankful for our years.
I gave you my love and you gave me yours,
but now it's time I travel alone.

So grieve me for a while, then let your grief be comforted by faith,
It's only for a while we must part, so treasure me within your heart.
Then when you come this way, I'll greet you
and say, “Welcome Home.”

Adapted from To Those I Love and Those Who Love Me (anonymous)

A couple of years ago, I heard the news of four-year-old Landon Jaros' passing. Having been a part of Platte County High School in Platte City, Missouri, I shared in the sadness with others at the loss of this little boy. I found this text and started composing through that night, finishing in the early morning.

This text is from the perspective of the recently departed, telling loved ones that they will meet again. Platte County High School premiered the work with love and heavy hearts for their fellow Platte County
family - and with hope that this work gives comfort in knowing we will be welcomed by our loved ones again.
