Jonathan Palant

Prior to his appointment as Artistic Director of the Turtle Creek Chorale, Dr. Palant was conductor of the Michigan State University Collegiate Choir and Assistant Director of the MSU Men's Glee Club. While in Michigan, he also served as Adjunct Professor of Choral Music at Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan.

As Music Director at San Pasqual High School in Escondido, California, the competitive vocal ensembles consistently rated among the best high school choirs in Southern California and were seen in major motion pictures such as SKG/Dreamworks' “Almost Famous.” In Philadelphia, Dr. Palant was Director of the Roxborough Community Men's Chorus and the Spruce Street Singers. He also conducted productions for the St. Joseph's University musical theater program.

In 2002, Dr. Palant was appointed Director of Choral Music at University School, an all-boys independent school in Cleveland, Ohio. His choirs performed at the Ohio Music Educators Conference and had performance tours of Scandinavia, Puerto Rico and Great Britain. During that time, Dr. Palant was a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, performing under the baton of Franz Welser-Möst, Pierre Boulez and Robert Porco. In 2004 and 2005, Palant studied with Helmuth Rilling as part of the Oregon Bach Festival's Conducting Master Class.

Dr. Palant is in demand as adjudicator and clinician. He has served on the state board of the Michigan chapter of the American Choral Directors Association, and currently sits on the Youth First Texas Executive Board. As composer and arranger, Dr. Palant's works have been performed by numerous ensembles; his work is published by Alliance Music Publishing, Inc. Dr. Palant holds degrees from Michigan State University, Temple University and the University of Michigan.
