Elaine Quilichini

Elaine Quilichini is recognized for her exceptional musicianship and acclaimed work with choral ensembles. In demand as a clinician, lecturer, adjudicator and guest conductor, Ms Quilichini holds a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Saskatchewan, a Masters of Music (Kodály) from Holy Names College, Oakland, California and Associate and Licentiate diplomas in piano performance.

In 1995, Ms Quilichini founded the Calgary Girls Choir after ten years as the director of award-winning ensembles, and over fifteen years as a music specialist for the Calgary Board of Education. In addition to her private music studio, she also directs the University of Calgary's Women's Choir. A notable indication of Ms Quilichini's stature in the choral community is her series published by Alliance Music Publishing in Houston, Texas. She is a member of the Alberta Choral Federation's Board of Directors, and a recipient of its 'con spirito' award for her contributions to the choral art.

Ms Quilichini has presented workshops, adjudicate festivals and conducted honor choirs in British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Nebraska. She was the Guest Conductor at the Nebraska State Music Conference, lectured at the National Kodály Institute in Brisbane, Australia, and was a Guest Conductor at the Australian National Kodály Conference. Recently, Ms Quilichini was featured in the Access Television series on the art of choral conducting, with the Calgary Girls Choir as the demonstration choir.

Last summer, Ms Quilichini conducted the Calgary Girls Choir at two major music conferences held in Edmonton, Alberta - Podium 2000 and ISME 2000. To celebrate the Millennium, Ms Quilichini commissioned music for the Choir from acclaimed Canadian composers Eleanor Daley and Imant Raminsh. Alliance Music Publications, Houston, Texas, will publish the new works, premiered at the conferences, in Ms Quilichini's choral series.

Ms Quilichini was thrilled to accept the invitation from the Selection Committee of the world-renowned International Musical Eisteddfod to Calgary Girls Choir-Allegra and Brava to perform at the 55th Festival in July 2001 in Llangollen, Wales.
