Robert S. Cohen has written music for chorus, orchestra, chamber ensemble, dance, and theatre and has received numerous awards and commissions; most recently from the Cascade Chorale, Monmouth Civic Chorus, Seton Hall University, the Manhattan Choral Ensemble, and the New Jersey Composer's Guild. Bob was also the winner of the Czech Republic's 2024 International NIPOS Choral Contest for his choral work Rest. His works have been performed in such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall, Severance Hall, Berlin's Kammermusiksaal, Moscow Conservatory, the Kimmel Center, Symphony Space, Bargemusic, the Sofia Opera House, Melbourne Concert Hall and the Beijing National Center for the Performing Arts. His oratorio Alzheimer's Stories, for soloists, chorus and large ensemble, is one of the most performed large-scale choral works in the U.S. Other recent works include: The Majestic Tapestry of Creation, I Hear America Singing, Genesis, Truth Be Told, Eight: The Story of Hanukkah, Celestial Trilogy, Spirit of the Winding Water, The Daddy Long-legs, the Fly, Celebrate, and I Am a Face. In addition, Bob has written numerous works for chamber ensemble, as well as a large catalog of compositions for percussion. Bob co-authored and composed the score for the Richard Rodgers Award winning Off-Broadway musical Suburb. He is a graduate of Brown University, where he studied with the late composer Ron Nelson, Queens College (CUNY), and was in the Doctorate program at Columbia University.
