Alexander Lloyd Blake

Conductor, composer, arranger, singer, and music activist Alexander Lloyd Blake serves as the Choir Director at Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA). Other positions include, Principal Associate Conductor of the National Children's Chorus in Los Angeles and New York and he is the founding Artistic Director of Tonality, a choral ensemble focused on a message of unity, peace, and social justice through a culturally diverse choral setting. Blake's arrangements are published by Santa Barbara Music Publishing, Alliance Music Publishing Inc., and Walton Music Publishing. His setting of Wade in the Water was a featured arrangement at the North Carolina Music Educators Association convention in 2013, and he has recently been commissioned by the ensemble Inspire to compose a work on environmental justice. He has been invited by the UCLA Center for the Art of Performance to prepare their choirs and in 2019, he conducted at the Prototype Festival in New York City.

Blake has worked as Vocal Arranger and Choral Contractor for Andy Grammer at the 2019 ARDY's (Radio Disney Awards), performed at the 92nd Academy Awards, and prepared singers for the 2020 Grammy Awards. He can be heard singing on soundtracks such as Jordan Peele's “Us”, Disney's “Lion King”, and Pixar's “Spies in Disguise.”

Alex completed the Doctorate in Musical Arts degree at the University of Southern California in 2019, Master of Music Degree at the University of California Los Angeles in 2014, and graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Vocal Performance from Wake Forest university in 2010.
