Melissa Roth Young

Melissa Roth Young grew up in San Antonio, singing in great schools and community choirs. She was a member of the inaugural Children's Chorus of San Antonio under the direction of Marguerite McCormick, the Madison High School Chorale & Madison Avenue, under the direction of Paula Edwards and the Trinity Baptist Church Youth Choir, directed by Tommy Lyons.

Melissa is a graduate of Baylor University (B. M. Ed. 1993) and the University of North Texas (M. M. Ed. 2002) and is a certified Kodály instructor (Level IV PSU '01). She has served in regional Texas Music Educators Association offices, the Oregon ACDA Board, the Southern Washington and Oregon Kod'ly Educators Board (SWOKE), and the OAKE National Board. She is currently a faculty member of the SMU Summer Music Workshops Kod'ly Staff.

While at Baylor, Melissa sang with the Acapella Choir, under the direction of Hugh Sanders. Throughout her career, she has performed with community choirs in Texas and Oregon, including the Waco Chamber Singers, the Dallas Symphony Chorus, the Texas Gilbert & Sullivan Company, the First Presbyterian Church Chamber Choir and the Belle Voci Women's Ensemble, Portland, Oregon, the Custer Road UMC Chancel Choir, Plano, Texas, and the First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir and Ensemble, Richardson, Texas.

Melissa has taught for 30 years in public schools and directed community choirs in Texas and Oregon and is in high demand as a clinician, adjudicator, and presenter at regional and national conferences. She also composes choral music, some of which are self-published and others available through Alliance Music Publications, Inc.

She is currently Director of Choirs at Haggard Middle School in Plano (Texas) ISD and is the co-director of the Plano Children's Chorale.
